A nice review of Dizzying Depths

A Review of “Dizzying Depths” by Lance Manion

Dizzying Depths by [Lance Manion]

Full disclosure, I was provided a copy of this book by the author or their representative, however, have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

Another set of shorts to offend and delight

Dizzying Depths is the newest collection of shorts compiled by author Lance Manion. I was first exposed to Manion in 2019 when I read neXt. As I read through, I found myself experiencing a range of feelings running anywhere from mildly amused to completely disgusted. And I liked what I read. I loved that an author in this current climate, where political correctness has stifled the basic idea of “freedom of speech”, had the courage to be unabashedly, outrageously genuine in his comedic take on everything under the sun.

Dizzying Depths continues this theme with an all-new set of short stories about topics ranging from Elvis impersonators and Peanuts reunions to sudden swashbuckling syndrome and my personal favorites – Letter to Nabisco and systemic stupidity. The compilation also includes several pieces specifically themed to the current pandemic we all find ourselves affected by which will have the reader nodding their head in agreement as they laugh at the antics of the quarantined. The compilation wraps up with a hilarious short featuring a James Bond-esque character named Nap Lapkin. After a visit to Manion’s website, I discovered that Manion had released an entire book chock full of Lapkin escapades and I ended up downloading it for a future read. As I previously mentioned with my review of neXt, Manion’s work is not for the easily offended, but if you have a twisted sense of humor Manion’s newest offering would be a welcome change. With bite sized portions of silliness that will often times have you laughing out loud, Dizzying Depths is the perfect choice to tuck into a yarn or two when you need a break
