Alone in a Corner Booth by Michael FitzMichael
Out the pizza place window, I see sunshine in the square.
There’s beautiful women walking with long legs, and a dirt black
bum standing by himself, half in the bag, pursing his lips for
the kiss that never comes.
Here comes two drunks. One is helping the other stagger
down the street. A cigarette falls from behind one drunks’ ear
and lands on the pavement. He’ll be looking for that later, the
cigarette that won’t be there.
It’s such a beautiful day, I feel sad. It makes me
melancholic to see all the people and be among them, and yet
still feel alone. The pretty pizza girl doesn’t look at me. She
doesn’t like me. She gave me a cold slice.
