boogie
His imagination is both his dearest friend and his worst enemy.
For instance, whenever someone says they have to “boogie” he immediately pictures them in full Saturday Night Fever gear. 3-piece white polyester suit. Big lapels. The whole outfit down to the smallest detail.
His imagination fully commits to the scene.
Disco music begins to play in his head. A fog machine belches out smoke and colored lights swirl all around. The iconic John Travolta pose is struck.
Hysterical. His imagination knows exactly what makes him laugh.
Of course, to the person who said the word he looks like a crazy person. It can get uncomfortable.
Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.
-Jules de Gaultier
Sometimes he tries to explain but it usually just makes thing worse.
He’s never quite sure whether to try and fight/ignore these things that pop into his head. Whether they are a gift or a curse.
The other night he was on a blind date and everything seemed to be going well… until the waitress came over to take their order. Then, completely unprovoked, for reasons only his imagination knows, he decided how odd it would be if he placed a reverse order.
An order that explained how he would like to be prepared and eaten.
What sides he would like to accompany him to the table.
In seconds the idea took off and created an entire world in which people went to restaurants to end up as the entrée. As a conscience decision. It was how some people chose to leave this world. Would his fellow diners feel obligated to try some of him?
Hysterical. His imagination knows exactly what makes him laugh.
Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not;
a sense of humour to console him for what he is.
-Francis Bacon
Of course, to the woman seated across from him he looked like a crazy person. It got uncomfortable.
He tried to explain… but she decided it was time for her to take her leave.
She used an unfortunate choice of words.
She said she had to boogie.
My imagination makes me human and makes me a fool; it gives me all the world and exiles me from it.
-Ursula K. Le Guin
