1)
Through empty streets
Swept clean by the howls of derision
The ghosts of another life, dwell
They tie themselves to your ankles
As you drag yourself, onward
For the pursuit of a goal
A prize
The weight in the middle of a slide
Hold me now, lest I fall
Into reverie or depression
I am waiting for that whisper
The dead of winter
My bones to be stirred
Fear not, the falling climate
The desire to hold a loved one close
Revel in the warmth of a kindred soul
In the skin that won’t let go
2)
Running through fallen leaves
Disintegrating beneath a cavalier’s retreat
Healthy leaves
Flush in spring
Now lay dead
Rusting on city streets
Forced from home by the change of season
Weathered by storms, yet cast down in silence
At dawn
I see you and walk on
Someone will come for you
Have no doubt
You will return
As food for worms
3)
The tired reel of an ageing film,
Falls gracefully to the floor.
Forgotten by fame
Discarded by fortune
A scream in the night
Echoes beneath the glare
Of an observant moon
And the hallowed tales
That remind us
Of failed revolutions
