I am not anonymous.

I am not anonymous. I write a blog daily here that nobody reads … so in a way I guess I am. The point being that everyone loves the idea of a group of hackers taking the law into their own (anonymous) hands when some injustice is being perpetrated against good but powerless people. I myself have highlighted various causes that you’ve taken it upon yourself to get involved and made the world a more honest, if not better, place.

But these recent “attacks” against Israel and the US are a joke. You undermine your own credibility when you make statements such as “We will wipe you off the cybermap”. In the end all you did was deface a bunch of nothing websites, harass Facebook users and steal credit information on random people.

i.e. you did nothing.

And you looked stupid doing it.

If this is really what you are all about, just another political movement dressing themselves up as a ‘cause’ then I invite you to go fuck yourself and stop getting people’s hopes up. I’ve noticed how you’ve avoided getting yourself involved in any of the real horrible shit that’s going on in other countries and I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed that this was just a coincidence. That the people that make up your group aren’t the same ideologues that you claim to hate so much.

The problems inherent with wearing a mask are both obvious and insidious. Everyone has a basic understanding of how people end up behaving when they feel they are somehow above consequence and it is my fondest wish that your group does not fall prey to those pitfalls. I’m assuming that most of your membership are hardcore nerds so I’m confident that you are familiar with the advice Uncle Ben gave to Peter Parker.

On a global level there are too many similarities between you and the scumbags like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Demagogues who only seemed interested in getting involved in situations where they will benefit from the press. The endless series of atrocities carried out by non-capitalistic governments doesn’t seem to interest you. And by you I mean the members who lurk in Middle Eastern shitholes and extremist countries festering around the globe.

It’s pretty easy for the Joker to get a hold of a Batman mask.

Sorry to mix Marvel and DC references but such is my passion for the topic.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m one of those people who believe that technology and the internet can make the world a better place and I want to believe that Anonymous can be at the forefront of fighting the forces of censorship and tyranny but when the media is able to grab a hold of communications threatening an all-out war on the US and the only thing that happens is the cyber equivalent of a few messages spray painted on the side of a water tower it just diminishes whatever momentum you had.

I will be honest and in the spirit of full disclosure admit that when V For Vendetta came out I thought the timing of a movie that rationalizes terrorist actions and the destruction of property based on the demonization of the typical old white men stereotypes was a bit suspect. That’s how I initially viewed it so obviously I was not your target audience. The Guy Fawkes masks seemed a bit much and the idea of giving the masses a rallying point for their growing anger seemed a bit dangerous.

I came around a bit.

I wanted to believe.

I still do.

Don’t fuck it up.

like it, share it!
