keep Christ out of Xmas

(originally posted 12/24/2013)

Tis the season to remind the people who are asking us to “keep Christ in Christmas” that their holiday is a giant lie and their willful ignorance of that fact is not appreciated. Christ has nothing to do with Christmas. Nothing! Christmas is hijacked holiday.

Let me explain to those of you who insist on putting mangers on your lawn.

About 500 years ago (that’s right, 1,500 years after the death of Christ) the Christian church pretty much ruled all of Europe. One of their big missions was to eliminate any form of paganism and either convert the pagans or kill them. You may remember the term “embrace the cross or die” from your history lessons about the Spanish Inquisitions. Anyway, it seems that while the church was “converting” many, they had a real problem with stopping them from celebrating some of their holidays, which were always seasonal. For example, the winter solstice was celebrated with gift giving and the decorating of an evergreen tree. Finally the church employed a compromise. They cooked up this idea of Christmas to celebrate the birth of Christ and put it right at the winter solstice so that way Christians could still celebrate the pagan holidays under the guise of something Christian.

With me so far? There was no Christmas for 1,500 years and then suddenly the church cooks up a big lie to make the celebration of the winter solstice a Christian holiday.

But Christ was at least born on December 25th right?

Nope. Even religious scholars agree that Mary and Joseph were on their way to Bethlehem to be counted for the census… a census that was usually taken in September. By the way, the concept of a ‘virgin birth’ (from a married woman no less) was added hundreds of years after Christ died.…  just another of countless edits that the church came up with as the centuries passed. So here we have an organization that believes that if you keep telling a lie for 500 years it will somehow become true. The worst part? Some people actually believe it.

The really worst part? They start bleating about how we all need to remember what the holiday is about. They say it with a straight face. They ask everyone to “keep Christ in Christmas.”

What a load of crap. Where are the news stories and magazine articles clearing up this deception? I guess that’s one of our cultures favorite Christmas traditions… covering up the truth about the holiday.

If you want to lie to yourself, go right ahead, knock yourself out, but take it down a notch with the “keeping Christ in Christmas” crap, it’s embarrassing.

Just enjoy the season, go out and spend money and give gifts and sit on Santa’s lap. You know, the REAL reason for Xmas.
