math
I enjoy statistics and I’m hoping to share that enthusiasm with you now.
Given that the world’s population is fast approaching eight billion people it is very probable that somewhere out there is a person whose two favorite songs are Surrender by Cheap Trick and Never Surrender by Corey Hart.
Here’s where the math gets tricky so stay with me.
Given the conflicting themes of these two songs it is also very probable that this person is currently residing in a mental health facility.
“Do I surrender? Do I never surrender?” Looks skyward and drops to knees. “Aaaaaargh.”
Here’s where the math gets very hypothetical.
There exists the possibility that this institutionalized person will read this post. Maybe even as you’re reading it now.
Let that sink in a bit.
See what I mean about statistics and probability?
“So you’re telling me there’s a chance.” (you saying that to yourself, not the crazy person)
The best part will be that if that person is actually reading this most likely his or her first thought will be “Manion is writing this and I’M the one locked up in a nuthouse?!”
Well, I have to admit that was a bit harsh Mr. or Mrs. hypothetical person. I’m just trying to help people pass the time with a little math appreciation.
Then there’s a good chance that they’ll continue. “You go to all the effort of creating a website and then you post such trivial crap as this?” they might rage. “You are a stupid, stupid man Lance Manion and if I ever get out I’m going to hunt you down like the dog you are.”
Ok, that stung a little… definitely not helping me make my case.
I’m glad they put you away you psycho.
But my point is that every time I use the words chance or might or probably I’m using very real statistics. I’m bringing to bear the awesome power of numbers.
Although I have to admit this theoretical person’s comments have taken away a lot of the fun for me. Thanks a lot person whose two favorite songs are Surrender by Cheap Trick and Never Surrender by Corey Hart.
like it, share it!
