the ocean got them pregnant (a Broken World story)

Central Intelligence Agency

Washington, D.C.

What we know for sure is this, on August 15th 2020, on a small strip of beach at {  redacted  } over 300 women and an unknown number of males were swimming between noon and 1:30 pm EST. A few weeks later it was confirmed that each of the females who were in the water at the time were pregnant. The youngest of these females was 12, the oldest 56. One woman who was pregnant at the time she was swimming ended up with an addition baby in her womb. A baby that soon absorbed the original fetus.

It was only when a number of similar anomalies started appearing in the sonograms of these women that investigators began to pit the pieces together. A month later it was determined that all of the women’s fetuses shared some rather striking differences in development from typical embryos at six weeks.

Two months later there was genuine concern, both for the unborn babies and the mothers. We seemed to be looking at something unexplainable.

Prenatal ultrasounds showed webbing visible between the fetus’s fingers, where there should have been legs there was only a single large tail-like appendage, and there appeared to be gills on the baby’s necks.

Internally certain agents began to call the babies the ‘Creatures from the Black {  redacted  }.

After only a five-month gestation period, the woman seemed ready to deliver. Most of them did not want to keep the babies, but we moved them to a research facility to study their pregnancy and their potential offspring. They were compensated for their inconvenience.

Many of the women began to have rather vivid dreams of giving birth in the ocean. The mothers described the dreams as lucid, rich in detail and felt that these visions were some sort of instructions.

Some of the women, particularly the younger ones, would not comply with our request to stay quarantined and disappeared only days before the anticipated delivery dates.

We later learned that these women had actually given birth in the ocean and their babies, once free of their wombs, swam off. Their whereabouts remains unknown. No bodies were recovered.

The babies born at the quarantine site and elsewhere on land were not viable and all perished soon after being delivered.

We are currently in the process of running autopsies on the corpses to determine more about the source of the incident.

It has been confirmed that there has been a flagrant breach of our rules regarding procreation. An as-of-yet-unidentified male impregnated a large number of human swimmers without their knowledge or consent in mid-August of last year.

This type of behavior, spawning like some sex-crazed salmon, cannot and will not be tolerated. The government where this incident took place is launching a full-scale investigation. This puts our entire community at risk.

On the positive side, it’s unlikely that they are capable of dumping any more garbage into the ocean than they are currently dumping. For the next few months we will put our ‘Stay Off the Rocks/Don’t Speak With Sailors’ protocol in place.

Recently we had five baby mermen arrive at our door unannounced and they are currently in our foster care system.

Their arrival should make identifying the male responsible much easier.

It is our recommendation that once this individual’s identity is confirmed that we confiscate his trident immediately.
