What I Learned In March
In March I opened up this site to other writers of flash fiction. What I learned was twofold; first thing was that the reading public continues to look down on anything that can be consumed in minutes as opposed to hours. Perhaps rightly so, perhaps not. To each their own and whatnot.
Second, a lot of people want to see what they’ve written posted somewhere. Anywhere. I’m as guilty as anyone. The idea that someone else might read what you’ve written is nice, the idea that they might even appreciate it is better. To that end, I think I’ll start to post stories sent in by other people now and then. Nothing formal. While this site is lucky to get 100 visitors a day, I like the idea that someone somewhere is excited to have their story available to read on the internet. “Look what I made. Look what I brought forth. Look at something that didn’t exist until I created it and now it does and there is fuck all you can do about it.”
To return to the first point, I’m starting April with two amazing examples of short stories written by literary studs. I hope they inspire everyone who reads them to pick up a pen and start a story of their own. A story I’d very much like to read.
